* herbaceous planting for a Black Walnut tree guild
* early native for use in a salad
Design
You can place this plant in shady and partially shading locations. It is an ideal forest garden plant. It most naturally fits into naturally styled gardens, and can also be included in Asian themed and whimsical garden styles.
Benefits
Spreads via seeds, often carried by ants, as well as rhizomes. Very low-care and adaptable native, that needs minimal upkeep. It will spread, which is a benefit if the need is for a ground cover.
Parting Thoughts
The flowers will bloom for 4-6 weeks. Once the temperatures get hot, above 80 F (27 C) the flowers generally fade and disappear. Violets can form a large grouping if allowed and with limited competition and is not sprayed with an herbicide. The seeds are liked by doves, quail, and turkey.
