A little known historical fact, is that Mizuna was grown as part of an experiment on the International Space Station.

Beet – Bull’s Blood

An heirloom variety of beet. This variety is grown mostly for the deep burgundy leaves to add to salads, although the small root is also delicious and nutritious.

Parting Thoughts

As people come and go in apartments and rental homes, I read and heard many talk about how they would love to have a garden but didn’t have the space.

Or they did not have the continuity of land since leases and rental agreements often start just after mid-summer to mid-September, based on the school year. Having been in this predicament myself, and with a mission of increasing health and food sovereignty, I began experimenting with portable gardens.

Most want tomatoes, and with this plant at the center, all other plants were chosen to complement the growing space and how the harvest could be prepared for a tasty and healthy meal. If you have any thoughts to share about plants you’d like to see in a portable garden, send us a message and let us know!
