Lettuces

What are the Lettuces in Rezenience Portable Gardens?

For the greatest variety of cut-and-come again lettuces may change with what variety grows in specific temperature and sunlight conditions, as well as vary by season, we use three different mixes and a specific variety that tolerates heat and strong sunlight.

We also add Bull’s Blood Beet seed for color, flavor, and an added health benefit. In some portable gardens we are also trying a type of pea that is eaten as a plant, snipping off parts of it to place on top of a salad.

Rouge D’ Hiver

This is a French variety that prefers cooler temperatures and dappled sun or part shade. It is a more delicate leaved lettuce, and colorful.

Seed Savers Exchange Mix

This mix is produced by the Seed Savers Exchange and is a selection of varieties that have shown to be tasty and a good transition to warmer temperatures. The leaves are various colors and shapes.

Black Seeded Simpson

An old heritage variety with light green leaves that tolerate direct strong sun when given adequate moisture. It can become bitter later in the season, but is tasty as ‘wilted lettuce.’
